China repudiates intentions for Moon seizure

(MENAFN) The United States space chief's allegations that China may be considering occupying the Moon as part of its military space program have been disputed by Beijing, which has accused the United States of attempting to convert space into a "warfighting domain."

In an interview that appeared in the German daily Bild on Saturday, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson claimed that the possibility of China “landing on the moon and saying: ‘It’s ours now and you stay out " would " must be very concerned " to the rest of the world.

Zhao Lijian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, addressed the claims on Monday, declaring that “not the first time that the head of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration has ignored the facts and spoken irresponsibly about China.”

He continued, asserting that China has consistently opposed weaponization and supported a shared destiny for mankind in space, “the US side has constantly constructed a smear campaign against China’s normal and reasonable outer space endeavors, and China firmly opposes such irresponsible remarks.”
