Kuwait Renews Support For Moroccan Initiative On Autonomy In Sahara

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, June 14 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait renewed late Monday its support for the Moroccan initiative to push for autonomy in the Sahara, saying that this option geared towards a suitable solution for all involved parties and respected the unity and sovereignty of Morocco.
This came in Kuwait's speech delivered by first secretary Fahad Hajji during the UN special committee on decolonization focusing on the Sahara.
Hajji indicated that Kuwait's stance reflected a unified GCC position on the issue of the Sahara, expressing hopes that a solution would come to fruition soon to stabilize and secure the region.
He renewed Kuwait's support to UN efforts in regards to the Sahara, saying that such efforts led to the roundtable discussions for parties involved in the Sahara issues in December of 2018 and March of 2019.
He touted the Moroccan, Algerian, Mauritanian, and Polisario participation in the meetings, which came in recognition of UNSC resolutions regarding the issue, commending the positive spirit that was reflected in the gatherings.
Hajji reiterated Kuwait full support for all UNSC resolutions connected with the Sahara to reach a political, realistic, and practical solution to the matter.
