Sorbonne Doha Launched At Lusail University

Doha: Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lusail University H E Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri yesterday announced the launch of Sorbonne University Doha, a branch of the University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne officially at Lusail University offering a Bachelor of Law programme in French.

“The newly opened university will enroll students for next academic year 2022-23. The university is expected to attract pretty good number of students from Qatari citizens and other nationals,” Dr. Al Marri told The Peninsula on the sidelines of an event held yesterday at Lusail University. 

Sorbonne University Doha in partnership with University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne yesterday organised an academic forum in the presence of Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri and Ambassador of France to Qatar H E Jean-Batiste Faivre at Lusail University. A group of French-speaking ambassadors, and several law professors from France and Qatar participated in the forum. 

Important topics related to legal sciences, including criminal laws, contract, corporate law, and arbitration were discussed at the forum.

Addressing the forum, Dr. Al Marri said that he was keen to forge a partnership agreement with the most prestigious international universities in teaching law in French by choosing University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne.

“I hope that Qatari students will utilise the opportunity offered by the university in Doha, which will help them to communicate with the world in a better way through legal sciences and French language.”

The Ambassador Faivre said that Sorbonne University Doha offers unique experience, and is a first-of-its-kind in Qatar.

“It is a new opportunity to further enhance bilateral and strategic cooperation between the two countries,” said the Ambassador. 

Dean of the School of Law, Sorbonne University Ines Roblotrauzi said that the academic framework of both universities is determined to move forward towards the success of this unique and exemplary agreement and its further advancement and development.

Director of Academic Affairs at Sorbonne University Doha Thomas Perran stated that students will study for three years to obtain a degree in law, which enables them to pursue different professions such as law, judiciary and diplomatic professions.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lusail University Dr. Al Marri and Ambassador Faivre also inaugurated a study hall which was named: Amphitheater Robert De Sorbon, after the founder of the Sorbonne University in Paris in 13th century AD.

To recall, Lusail University had signed an agreement with the University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne to offer a Bachelor of Law programme in French. This programme is first-of-its-kind to be offered in Qatar.

It aims to provide an outstanding university education for students from French schools who wish to study law, and to prepare legal experts who can work in law firms, judicial system, and jobs in international organisations.
