Doha: The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani delivered a speech this afternoon at the opening session of the World Economic Forum in Davos. HH the Amir was welcomed by Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, Klaus Schwab.

Amir spoke about a wide range of current issues world is facing from war in Europe to energy security. Speaking on conflicts around the world he said that“we should never give up trying to bring parties together as long as we believe our efforts could save even a single life, our attempt to mediate will be worth it

“We stand in solidarity with the millions of innocent refugees who are victims of this European war and with victims of all other wars taking place right now. Victims of every race, nationality and religion. I want us to help all of them,” HH the Amir said in his speech.

Talking about the Al Jazeera journalist who was killed in Israeli firing His Highness said that“Shereen Abu Aqleh, a Christian Palestinian American journalist was killed two weeks ago in Palestine and then robbed of a dignified burial. Shereen was covering the suffering of Palestine people for decades and our hearts are broken”
Adding on he said that“In the 21st century, we should not tolerate these aggressions and we should not accept a world where governments have double standards about the value of people based on the religion, region or race.”

Mentioning about the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 H H the Amir assured everyone that this version of the World Cup will be a special one.

“Even today there are still people who cannot accept the idea the Arab Muslim country would host a tournament like the World Cup. These individuals including many in positions of influence have launched attacks at a pace never seen before when a mega sporting event was hosted by other countries on different continents, despite the fact that each of those countries had its own particular problems and challenges

“Qatar is just like your own country. Not perfect, constantly trying to improve and full of hope for a brighter future. We are so proud of the development, reforms and the progress we made, and we are grateful for the spotlight that the World Cup provided which inspired us to make these changes at a lightning speed. I assure everyone listening that this version of the World Cup will be a special one,” His Highness said.
