Russia stops supplying electricity to Lithuania

(MENAFN) Lithuania's electrical transmission system operator, Litgrid, reported on Sunday that Russia has halted delivering power to the nation.

The stoppage of supply was verified by Inter RAO, Lithuania's sole importer of power from Russia. Inter RAO's Nordic branch similarly halted delivering power to Finland earlier the current month.

Lithuania's Energy Ministry stated on Friday that it is going to stop purchasing Russian power.

On May 22, according to a declaration from the ministry, “according to the decision of the electricity exchange operator Nord Pool, trading in electricity generated in Russia, which was carried out by Inter RAO (through its subsidiary Inter RAO Lietuva), is terminated.”
