The proposal was presented to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena today.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said that 40 independent MPs have backed the proposal.
The proposal seeks to extract key points from the 20th Amendment to the Constitution and the 19th Amendment and include them in the 21st Amendment.
Speaking in Parliament, Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe urged the Speaker to take steps to seek the support of the President and Prime Minister and MPs for the Constitutional Amendment which meets the demands of the public.
He also urged the Government to extend support to the proposed 21st Amendment. (Colombo Gazette)
