MPs Janaka Thissakuttiarachchi and Chaminda Wijesiri were removed from Parliament today by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana.

The two MPs were removed after they engaged in a heated confrontation inside the House.

The two MPs were heard verbally abusing each other and had to be restrained from a physical confrontation.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana temporarily suspended sittings during the incident and ordered them removed after resuming sittings.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Chaminda Wijesiri attempted to explain his conduct to the Speaker but the Speaker refused to listen and removed him.

The incident took place when Parliament was debating the economic crisis in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
