Knowledge-Sharing Key to A Sustainable and Innovative Future of Farming


(MENAFN- In2 Consulting) Dubai, UAE: 27 February 2021: Priva, the Netherlands’s market leader and expert technology provider of hardware, software, and data-services in the field of climate control, energy saving and optimal reuse of water, hosted an evening for partners at the Netherlands Pavilion at expo 2020 Dubai on Thursday to mark the end of Food, Agriculture & Livelihoods Week at Expo 2020, which took place from 17-23 February 2022.

Priva’s partner event was attended by industry professionals, partners and academia from the region and internationally and featured an exciting programme focused on the importance of knowledge-sharing in Agri- and Horticulture towards a sustainable and innovative future of farming.

Guests were welcomed by Priva’s General Manager Middle East, Giovanni Angiolini, who highlighted the company’s commitment to being a global knowledge partner locally on the ground and to help achieve the region’s indoor growing and horticulture goals. Giovanni opened Priva’s Middle East branch office in Dubai last year following exceptional growth in demand for the company’s innovative and sustainable horticulture and building automation solutions in the region, as governments and growers intensified their focus on food security and self-sufficiency.

Meiny Prins, CEO and Co-owner of Priva and Expo Champion for the Food sector at Expo 2020, delivered the keynote address for the evening, which was followed by a presentation from Dr. Jan Westra, the company’s Strategic Business Developer, who discussed Priva’s role in aligning with regional knowledge institutes.

Speaking on behalf of the academic sector, Mariëtt Westermann, Vice Chancellor at New York University (NYU) Abu Dhabi discussed the potential role of knowledge institutes, such as NYU Abu Dhabi, in the UAE’s National food security strategy.

The evening concluded with a highly engaging panel discussion focused on knowledge-sharing in the UAE moderated by Giovanni Angiolini. Panelists included Hassan Halawy, CEO of Elite Agro; Olav Scholte, Commercial Lead Agriculture Lightning at Signify Middle East; Mariëtt Westermann from NYU Abu Dhabi, and Jan Westra from Priva.
