Qatar - CCQ announces Students Council election results

Doha: The Community College of Qatar (CCQ) yesterday announced the results of the Students Council elections in its third session (2022).

According to the executive procedures of the elections, candidacy was open over the course of a full week, during which the number of candidates reached 26 students. The candidates competed for 12 seats representing the three academic divisions in the college, where three seats were allocated to the Science and technology Division, four seats to the Management Science Division, and five seats to the Liberal Arts Division.

The whole process of running for the elections, electoral advertising and voting took place electronically, with the two-vote system that enables each student to give the first vote to one candidate from the same academic division, and the second vote to one candidate from the other divisions.

The new council members representing the Science and Technology Division are Ali Mohammad Salem Abu Arqoah Al Marri, Sanad Hani Al Hadidi, and Jawaher Abdulaziz Mubarak Al-Ali Al-Maadeed. The Management Science Division will be represented by Mohamed Abdel Ghani Mohamed Dahneem Al-Saffar, Hassan Dhafi Mohammad Ali Al-Shahrani, Fatima Mohammad Abdullah Mohammad Al-Mutawa and Sadeeqa Hassan Youssef Saleh represent.

 Moreover, Jabr Mohammad Bakhit Al-Jabr Al-Nuaimi, Hamad Bakhit Faraj Hamad Al Mansouri, Wadha Abdullah Khamis Abdullah Al Ali, Nora Saleh Jassim Al-Rabiah Al Kuwari, and Noof Mohammad Saeed Ali Abu Sala'ah will be representing the Liberal arts Division. The council's membership term is one year starting from the date of taking the oath before the college president.

Dr. Khalid Al Abdulqader, CCQ Vice-President, stressed the vital role that the Students' Council plays in measuring the effectiveness of the administration's decisions, which contributes significantly to the development of the College and its programs. 

Dr. Al Abdulqader said:“This year's elections emphasize the importance of encouraging students to exercise their right of expression and shed light on their vital role in the decision-making process with the aim of promoting participation and cooperation between students and faculty, as well as developing communication and leadership skills among our students.”

Commenting on the announcement of the election results, Dr. Mustafa Al Khawaldeh, Dean of Student Affairs, said:“I am delighted to extend my sincere congratulations to the members of the new Student Council. I am confident that they will do their best to actively represent their fellow students, and contribute effectively to enhancing communication between students and the college administration and faculty members and serving the general interest of students.”

Internal elections were also held among the members of the new council, during which the members elected Hassan Dhafi Mohammad Ali Al-Shahrani as President of the Council, Ali Muhammad Salem Abu Arqoah Al Marri as Vice President, Wadha Abdullah Khamis Abdullah Al-Ali as Secretary, and Sadiqa Hassan Youssef Saleh as Treasurer.

Commenting on his election as President of the Students' Council, Hassan Al-Shahrani expressed his gratitude and appreciation to his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him, and said:“The Council's main goal will be bringing the different views closer and solving students' problems, as well as creating an effective means of communication between the administration and students. We will also ensure that the general interest of students, the development of the College, and the service of our beloved country are at the top of our priorities.”

The new members of the Council will hold regular meetings with the management of the college to discuss students' proposals and concerns and work on resolving challenges and problems that may arise during the academic year. Council members will also have the opportunity to participate in various committees and present their ideas and proposals to the deans of the academic divisions, as well as represent the college in official events held inside and outside the country.
