Jordan - Recent rainfall increases yearly dam reserve to 59%

AMMAN — The Ministry of Water and Irrigation on Sunday announced an increase in the annual rainfall rate to 59 per cent of Jordan's long term annual average of 8.1 billion cubic metres (bcm), adding that the total quantity of water accumulated in the main dams during the past 48 hours amounted to 5 mcm.

In the past 24 hours, the total quantities of water accumulated in the main dams amounted to 3 million cubic metres (mcm), the majority of which, 2.285 mcm, was stored in the King Talal Dam. 

The ministry indicated that the rain monitoring stations recorded the highest rainfall during the past 24 hours in Salt, which amounted to 11.6 mm, while the rest of the governorates recorded an average precipitation within 24 hours: Amman 7 mm, Balqa 5.1, Madaba 3.5 mm, Zarqa 1.2 mm, Jerash 2.7 mm, Mafraq 0.7 mm, Irbid 2.6 mm, Ajloun 7.5 mm, Karak 1.3 mm, Tafileh 0.8 mm, while no precipitation was recorded in Maan and Aqaba during the past hours.
