Prominent leaders of various Filipino community groups in Qatar converged Friday during the launching of the 'Overseas Filipino Essentials Awareness Campaign' convened by the Advocates & Keepers Organisation of Overseas Filipino Workers (AKO-OFW) Qatar Chapter.
During the event, AKO-OFW Qatar Chapter president Mary Jill Lluz led the announcement of the 'OFW Middle East' help desk being piloted in Doha, which would serve as one of the many efficient conduits between Filipino expatriate workers and various Philippine and host country government institutions that would be guiding OFWs on the right offices and public information needed for their various concerns.
This referral system would save money, time, and effort, and includes basic knowledge on essential contact persons and the numbers of Philippine embassies and host government offices concerned, charity institutions, Covid-19 awareness, travel and tourism information, repatriation, OFW benefits and livelihood reintegration.
AKO-OFW's vice chairman for Middle East Affairs, Joseph Timothy Rivera, also attended the event and delivered a brief talk on voter education as a precursor to the upcoming overseas absentee voters (OAV) activities, in relation to the May 2022 general elections in the Philippines.
Rivera, who is also a nominee of AKO OFW's party-list wing, noted that thousands of migrant Filipinos are expected to flock to various Philippine embassies worldwide to cast their votes in next year's polls.
