Qatar backs Unesco efforts to combat hate speech


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) have signed an agreement under the terms of which Qatar will provide financial support worth $130,000 to the high-level ministerial conference to combat hate speech through education, which will be held on October 26 in Paris.
The agreement was signed by HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to Unesco Nasser al-Hanzab, and Stefania Giannini, Unesco's Assistant Director-General for Education.
HE al-Hanzab said the agreement comes within the framework of Qatar's continuous support for international efforts to combat hatred and promote peace and coexistence among peoples of different cultures and religions.
Unesco welcomed the support aimed at strengthening international efforts to combat hate speech that leads to extremism and terrorism.
