French FM calls for holding Libyan election as scheduled


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, Sept 28 (KUNA) -- French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has called on all Libyan parties to commit on holding election on 24th December as scheduled.
Le Drian, addressing the 76th UN General Assembly meeting in New York Monday evening, expressed his hope the UN Security Council and the neighboring countries of Libya cooperate to achieve Libyan sovereignty, stability and unity, as well as stopping foreign interference in the north African country.
He said France would be hosting an international conference on Libya in mid-November.
Regarding the Iranian file, Le Drian called on Tehran to resume nuclear negotiations as soon as possible, stating "we need to show strong determination towards Iran and its nuclear program."
He meanwhile said called on five UNSC permanent members to work for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, which was an international responsibility.
He also underlined need to provide humanitarian assistance to people of Afghanistan, calling on the regime in Kabul to "sever all ties with terrorist groups."
Regarding the climate change, the Foreign Minister noted that "human lives, as well as international civility and future generations, are at stake." (end)
