'Turkey takes restrictions to stop oil slick from Syria from reaching Northern Cyprus


(MENAFN) According to the Turkish vice president, Turkey is taking all restrictions to stop an oil slick from Syria from increasing to the Karpas coast of Northern Cyprus.

Anadolu Agency mentioned what Fuat Oktay said "We are taking the necessary measures by mobilizing every means available that we have without giving any chance to the spill to turn into an environmental disaster."

Oktay added that the related ministries "rapidly" deliberated the state in the day, also saying that Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Ministry is going to take the needed restrictions at sea and the Environment and Urbanization Ministry on the Karpas coast.

Moreover, he underlined that the Turkish President is tracking the improvements carefully; Oktay declared "We are in contact with Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Ersin Tatar and the TRNC authorities as well. The Turkish Embassy is [also] monitoring the matter closely."
