Colombia: 9 die on farm in Algeciras


(MENAFN) On Monday, May. 31 Mayor of Algeciras Libardo Pinto stated that eight men and one woman died on a farm based in the rural part of Algeciras in the southern Colombian department of Huila.

Algeciras spokesperson Gelvi Cabrera said to national newspaper El Tiempo that it is still unknown whether the victims are residents, further saying that the victims may come for the coffee harvest season that begins on Monday.

Pinto noted: "we need the national government to intervene with social investment to mitigate the effects of the violence that the post-conflict period has left us."

Denouncing the aggressive act, the non-governmental organization Institute for Development and Peace Studies stated that thus far in the present year, there have been 41 aggressive incidents nationally, resulting in 158 fatalities.
