EU officials underline Jordan's pivotal role in region under King leadership


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Brussels, May. 5 (Petra) -- Two European officials lauded Jordan's pivotal role under the leadership of his majesty the King in the Middle East.
In two newspaper interviews, EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Nabila Massrali, and NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, James Appathurai, said that the King's visit Brussels on Wednesday comes as an affirmation of the depth of cooperation and the deep-rooted ties between Jordan, the European Union (EU) and the NATO.
Both officials commended the Kingdom's role in supporting stability in the region, especially supporting the two-state solution based on international agreements, praising Jordan's efforts to provide Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccines to refugee communities.
In the interview with Massrali, she said that King Abdullah's visits to Brussels reflect the level of cooperation and the distinguished relations between the EU and Jordan.
She indicated that the meetings of His Majesty with European Council President, Charles Michel, and European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, constitute an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment to the European-Jordanian partnership, and to exchange views on key issues such as bilateral cooperation, peace and stability in the region, the Covid-19 pandemic and the availability of vaccines.
She said that the partnership between the EU and Jordan is strong and deep-rooted and extends for more than 40 years, affirming the commitment of the EU to support Jordan's stability.
Massrali pointed out that the EU sees Jordan as an example for the region and highly appreciates its role in supporting stability in the region, especially its constructive role in supporting the two-state solution based on international agreements, and its active role in international institutions such as the United Nations and the Union for the Mediterranean.
She noted that the EU provided financial support to Jordan to cope with the social and economic impacts of ovid-19 through joint cooperation programs and microfinance programs, as 416 million euros were provided through cooperation programs for the emergency response and to strengthen the health system in the Kingdom.
