Helen Margetts

Helen Margetts OBE FBA is a political scientist researching data-intensive digital governance and politics. She is Professor of Society and the Internet and Professorial Fellow at Mansfield College at the University of Oxford, before which she was Professor of Political Science and Director of the School of Public Policy at UCL.

She set up (in 2018) and directs the Public Policy Programme at The Alan Turing Institute for Data Science and AI.

Her books include Digital Era Governance (with Patrick Dunleavy, 2006) and most recent book Political Turbulence: How Social Media Shape Collective Action (with Peter John, Scott Hale and Taha Yasseri) which won the Political Studies Association's Mackenzie prize for the best politics book, 2017. She was awarded an OBE in the Queen's New Years Honours List, 2019, and is a Fellow of the British Academy.
