Baghdad's Green Zone hit by 2 rockets

(MENAFN)The Iraqi army said in a statement that two missiles hit the heavily fortified Green Zone in the center of Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, on Monday night.

The media office of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command said in a brief statement that the rockets have not claimed any lives.

The source of the Ministry of the Interior told Xinhua that alerts had been heard in the U.S. Embassy in the zone during the assault, adding the accurate landing location of the rockets was not immediately clear.

Hardly any group has confirmed the incident till now, but the army bases housing American forces across Iraq, along with the U.S. embassy in Bagdad, are frequent targets for mortar and rocket attacks.
