More than 23 fighters killed in E. Syrian Israeli raid

(MENAFN) A war monitor reported on Wednesday that more than 23 pro-government fighters were killed by a fresh Israeli missile strike in eastern Syria after midnight.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the "intense" rocket attack battered sites of Syrian forces and allied Iranian-backed armed forces in the area spreading out from the city of Deir al-Zour to the al-Bukamal area on the Syrian-Iraqi border.

The UK-based watchdog group added that of those who killed, seven were Syrians whereas the rest are Iranian-backed combatants.

It further included that the number of death is expected to jump owing to the number of seriously injured fighters.

For its part, the state news agency SANA confirmed the Israeli raids without giving further information.
