(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Sept 19 (KUNA) -- Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Walid Al-Jassem said the award bestowed upon His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah by the US president is a "source of pride" for Kuwait and Kuwaitis.
At an Oval Office ceremony yesterday, Trump dedicated the Legion of Merit, Degree Chief Commander, a rare and prestigious decoration to His Highness the Amir, describing the Kuwaiti leader as an "unparalleled diplomat."
The US president also praised His Highness' "tireless mediation of disputes in the Middle East."
"It comes in recognition of his (His Highness the Amir) rich legacy in humanitarian work and his prominent role in promoting peace regionally and internationally," the Kuwaiti minister told KUNA.
"Words cannot describe our pride and joy," he said, adding that His Highness will forever remain a global icon.
"The history books will continue to highlight the achievements of His Highness and his unlimited generosity to the entire world.
The minister went on to pray for the safe return of His Highness the Amir to the country and for his health and wellbeing. (end)
