Qatar- Presently, no plans to reduce private school fees: QC official
(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Tawar Al Kuwari, First Vice Chairman of the Qatar Chamber and Chairman of the Education Committee of Qatar Chamber, said in a statement to a local daily that presently there are no plans to reduce fees in private schools.
He explained that there are financial obligations on school owners and added that they expect a reduction in private school fees maybe later when education sector receives more new investments.
Al Kuwari told the Lusail newspaper that 'there are requests from investors in the private education sector for state intervention and more facilities to encourage investments in this sector, noting that 'there are continuous calls for liberalization of private school fees in response to supply and demand so that the market becomes free.
"I expect that fees will decrease in the future with new investments and supply will exceed demand increasing the competitiveness of these institutions. This period will witness a decrease in private school fees, compared to the past three years that witnessed pressure on private schools," he added.
Al Kuwari said that the public-private partnership law encourages investment in private school sector and explained that the government encourages development of the sector and there are many projects underway.
H E Dr Mohammed bin Abdul Wahid Al Hammadi, Minister of Education and Higher Education, and ministry officials met the Education Committee of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, headed by Al Kuwari, yesterday through video conferencing.
During the meeting, coordination between the private education affairs sector at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Chamber's Education Committee was discussed, in addition to consulting in several aspects related to private schools and encouraging investors in the education sector and overcoming obstacles they face.
