IPL 2020: Riyan Parag to bring his trademark Bihu celebration to UAE

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Remember Riyan Parag, the Rajasthan Royals teen sensation?

Parag last year became the youngest player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to score a half-century.

During a match against the Delhi Capitals last year, Parag scored a fifty aged 17 years 175 days. The talented all-rounder from Assam broke the record held by Sanju Samson.

The Kerala stumper had set the record aged 18 years 169 days during the 2013 edition of the IPL.

But Parag's batting heroics were not his only highlights in the 2019 IPL.

The right-handed batsman also took the internet by storm with his Bihu dance, the traditional form of dance in Assam, on the pitch every time he took a wicket with his leg-spin in the IPL.

Now the 18-year-old promises to bring the Bihu flavour to the IPL in the UAE.

"Yes, Bihu is my trademark celebration. And you can definitely expect some of it in the UAE," Parag told Khaleej Times during an interview.

Parag then revealed that he had moved on from the set back of not being able to play IPL in front of his home fans in Guwahati.

Guwahati was scheduled to host two matches of the Rajasthan Royals in the 2020 edition of the IPL.

But the tournament was eventually shifted to the UAE due to the disturbing rise in Covid-19 cases in India.

"Yes, the IPL was supposed to happen in Assam for the first time, which is also my home ground. That couldn't happen because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but there is no point sulking about it," Parag said.

"Yes, it's unfortunate and I am bit sad, I won't be able to play in front of my home crowd, but then again looking on the bright side, we are playing in the UAE. It's a new country, and it will be my first time playing in Dubai. So yeah, it's going to be a fun experience. I will try to express myself and enjoy myself," added Parag.
