Culture, innovation among UAE priorities: Sheikh Mohammed


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Promoting culture and innovation, as well as developing the youth, are among the top priorities of the country, the UAE Vice-President has said.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has met with the Ministry of Culture and Youth, directing the team to draft a national strategy to ensure that the culture industry would be able to contribute to the economy.

"We look forward to creating a conducive cultural environment with a creative horizon that places the UAE's cultural accomplishments on the Arab and international distinctive map," he said.

Initiatives targeting the youth must also be prioritised, Sheikh Mohammed added, highlighting that there should be a focus on projects that invest in their talents and abilities. Another goal is to empower so they can be ready to enter the labour market.

"Youth are key to our policies and strategic plans, and our objective is enabling them, refine and direct their talents to translate our vision to build the future of our country," he said.

Plans and programmes that will hone Emirati talents and promote local innovative products should also be in place, he added.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed reviewed the ministry's plans and ensured that these were aligned with the government's post-Covid strategy.

Noura bint Mohamed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Youth, and Shamma bint Suhail Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, briefed the UAE Vice-President about the progress on the national youth strategy.

"The cultural and innovative related industries are an important engine to promote our society. And the youth are key enablers to accelerate the development journey of our nation in every sphere," Sheikh Mohammed said.
