Kuwait- Turkey slams US-SDF oil deal in Syria

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Aug 3 (KUNA) -- Turkey blasted on Monday Washington for a deal signed by a US firm with the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on excavating, processing and trade oil in northeastern Syria.
In a statement, The Turkish Foreign Ministry said "the step clearly shows the ambition of the People's Protection Units (YPG) and the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), the two groups which are leading the SDF to separate from Syria by seizing the natural resources of the Syrian people."
The statement expressed sorrow over the "US support to this step that ignores international law and targets Syria's territorial integrity and sovereignty as well as being considered within the scope of financing terrorism."
Media reports said that the SDF signed an agreement with the Delta Crescent Energy LLC to modernize oil fields East Euphrates controlled by the PKK and YPG.
Washington considered YPG as a "reliable ally" in the war against the so-called Islamic State, while Ankara designated it (YPG) as a "terrorist organization." (end)
