Qatar- Ministry provides tips to prevent heatstroke


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Higher temperatures can lead to heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. To stay healthy during this extreme weather, the Ministry of Public Health has listed a few pointers.

First and foremost is the importance of drinking at least 8-12 cups of water daily, even if one does not feel thirsty.

Other tips include: 

- Use sunscreen at least half an hour before sunlight exposure.

- Avoid doing physical activity outdoors while the sun is strong and exercise indoors during this time.

- Reduce consumption of caffeinated drinks including coffee and tea and avoid energy and soft drinks.

- Avoid being outdoors during direct sunlight.

- Wear light-weight and light-colored cotton clothing.

- Wear sunglasses and cover your head.

- Eat a healthy balanced diet and increase the consumption of vegetables and fruits as they are rich in vitamins, minerals, and water.

- Use umbrellas to protect your head and body from direct sunlight, especially at the beach.
