Al-Kholy wins Qatar Online Racing Championship

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Ahmad al-Kholy clinched the Qatar Online Racing Championship yesterday after winning the third race of the final week of the competition, organised by the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF).
Al-Kholy, who started from pole position, was dominant throughout the 13-lap virtual race set at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. Going into the third and final race, al-Kholy had a slender six-point lead over Hamad al-Sulaiti. Yesterday though, al-Kholy  was on his own as he cruised to his second victory to finish with 116 points and take home QR15,000 in prize money.
Overwhelming favourite Khalid al-Kuwari, who had won six out of six races at the qualifying stage and topped the Group B, could not live up to his high standards. He finished third overall, having come second in the final race. Al-Kholy's closest rival Hamad al-Sulaiti came second overall but had a poor race yesterday. Starting fifth on the grid, he could not climb up positions but a 100-point tally ensured he was richer by QR13,000.
Third-placed al-Kuwari walked away with QR10,000. Saoud al-Thani and Rashid Lebdah finished fourth and fifth place respectively and were awarded QR6,000 and Q5,000.
The competition, which was open for Qatar residents only, was organised by QMMF to engage fans as the Covid-19 pandemic has brought an halt to on-track action. Races were held in the following format: 10 Minutes for practice, 15 minutes for qualifying and 25 minutes of racing.
