Minister confirms first coronavirus case in Jordan

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, March 2 (Petra) -- Health Minister Saad Jaber on Monday announced the first case of coronavirus in Jordan, a man who recently arrived from Italy.
In a press briefing with State Minister for Media Affairs Amjad Adaileh, Jaber said the patient came from Italy with a colleague and was put under quarantine several days ago. A test for the virus was conducted after the man showed symptoms of the disease, he added.
He said the test was positive, but a second test was conducted to confirm the infection.
The patient is now in quarantine at the Prince Hamza hospital under the supervision of a specialized medical team, Jaber pointed out, adding that another team was sent to the patient's home to sterilize it and place the family under a 14-day isolation period while conducting the necessary tests.
The minister underlined that the second person is not infected, but was kept in quarantine as a precaution, adding that he will be re-examined after a week.
He said that if the cases of coronavirus rise to 20, schools will be closed and gatherings will be banned.
