Int'l Maritime Organization chief meets Kuwait official


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) LONDON, Nov 28 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Ministry of Communication Undersecretary Kholoud Al-Shehab met with International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary General Kitack Lim on Thursday and discussed means to boost cooperation between Kuwait and the organization.
Kuwait's Ambassador to the United Kingdom Khaled Al-Duwaisan said in remarks to KUNA and Kuwait official TV that the meeting reflects the distinguished role of Kuwait and its good reputation worldwide, as the IMO meetings include more than 200 delegations, and most of them did not meet IMO Secretary General.
Kuwait cherishes an eminent political and economic reputation at the international level, he affirmed, expressing hope that Kuwait's nomination to IMO Council would receive support during the elections due tomorrow.
Kuwait has a lot of expertise to offer in the marmite field, he said.
Al-Shehab heads the Kuwaiti delegation to the IMO 31st Regular Session of the Assembly that will witness Kuwaiti's nomination to the membership of the Organization's Board of Directors.
IMO is considered the most important United Nations' organizationspecialized in the marmite field.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. IMO's work supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals. (end)
