Qatar- Amir, British PM discuss bilateral relations


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) London: Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani discussed with Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, the strategic relations and means of boosting cooperation between the two countries in various fields for their mutual benefit.

In a meeting at the British Prime Minister's office on 10 Downing Street in London yesterday morning, H H the Amir and the UK Premier discussed several emerging issues in the Middle East, especially the developments in the Gulf.

At the beginning of the meeting, the British Prime Minister welcomed H H the Amir, pointing out that they are 'old friends. The British Prime Minister noted that they met at the city hall when he was mayor of London and in Zurich when Qatar defeated England for the hosting of the 2022 World Cup. 

He congratulated Qatar on that achievement, stressing that the relationship between the State of Qatar and the United Kingdom is growing stronger and there are several landmarks in London attesting to this.

H H the Amir stressed the strength of the relations between the two countries, in addition to the strong personal relations between His Highness and the Prime Minister, pointing out that this meeting will contribute to strengthening these relations in several areas.

The members of the official delegation accompanying H H the Amir and senior officials of the British Prime Minister's office attended the meeting. 

H H the Amir left London yesterday morning following a working visit to the United Kingdom, heading to New York City, USA. H H the Amir is accompanied by an official delegation. 

Ahead of the visit of H H the Amir to the UK, British Ambassador to Qatar, Ajay Sharma, had said in a statement that the strong ties between Qatar and the UK in several areas have further expanded in the past years. Over the course of the last few years, Sharma said, 'I have seen changes in the nature of the relationship between our countries.

We now have a really strong commitment from the British government to work closely with Qatar on the World Cup. He said that the relationship between the UK and Qatar is historic, deep, and important.
