Oman- Several people arrested for poaching in Dhofar
A number of people were arrested for violating provisions of the wildlife law in separate cases in Dhofar last week.
In the first case, some persons were arrested for hunting ten Arabian gazelles, 23 Al Qata birds and four wild rabbits in Al Shuwaymiya area in Shalim and Al Halaniyat Islands in Dhofar.
They were arrested by wildlife inspectors from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) in cooperation with the ROP and some citizens.
In another case, wildlife inspectors arrested some citizens for hunting nine sand partridges in Al Najd area in Dhofar.
According to Article 15 (b) of the Law on Nature Reserves and Wildlife Conservation, anyone who deliberately kills, hunts or smuggles any animal or bird will be imprisoned for a term not less than six months and not more than five years. The law also stipulates a fine not less than RO1,000 and not more than RO5,000 (either of the two).
