Sri Lanka- Sajith reiterates he will contest Presidential polls


(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) United National Party (UNP) Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa today reiterated that he will contest the next Presidential elections.

Speaking at a mass rally in Matara organised by UNP Parliamentarian and Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera, Premadasa said that he will look to unite the country, if elected President.

He said that the country must move forward with new thinking and new policies.

Premadasa said that he will promote a ‘Sri Lanka First' policy.

The UNP has yet to announce its Presidential candidate but several UNP Parliamentarians have already demanded that Premadasa be picked as the UNP Presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, UNP Parliamentarian Harin Fernando said that the UNP Parliamentarians supporting Premadasa are prepared to face disciplinary action by the party for opening saying they want Premadasa as the next President.

Fernando said that the UNP will protect its party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe but wants a new President in 2020.
