Oman- Pleasant weather to continue for few more days, says Met

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat -

Most parts of the sultanate are witnessing pleasant weather conditions accompanied by winds. The temperature fell by two to three degrees in parts of the sultanate in the past few days. According to the meteorological department, the extended monsoon season in India is the main reason for the current pleasant weather of Oman.

An official with the Met department said, 'This is a global impact of El Nino. It is impacting the whole world. There is a shift in the overall climatic conditions across the seven continents. 'In Oman too, there has been a drop of temperature by two to three degrees in the past few days.'

He added that El Nino started in the Pacific Ocean almost a decade back and has extended to every ocean including the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea which has a direct impact on the overall temperature.

El Nino is the periodic warming of water in the Pacific Ocean every few years. When it occurs, it means more energy is available for storms to form there. El Nino also affects wind shear, which is when air currents at a lower altitude blow in a different direction from winds higher in the atmosphere.

The Met has forecast rains in Ibri and Al Hajar mountains. While Muscat will have no rains, the weather will be pleasant with wind speed of 5 to 10 knots (in contrast to 20 to 25 last week) blowing from south-east.

The temperature will also drop by three degrees at day and two in the night. In Salalah, there will be no clouds but rains will resume from day after tomorrow, it said.
