Jordan- House speaker meets Syria


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, July 29 (Petra) -- Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Atef Tarawneh, on Monday met with Syria's Acting Charge D'Affaires in Amman, Ayman Aloush, on the occasion of the end of his tenure as Syria's acting charge d'affaires in Amman.
During the meeting, Tarawneh stressed the importance of continuing joint Arab parliamentary coordination to serve the Arab peoples' causes and interests, namely the Palestinian cause.
He underlined the importance of enhancing the Jordanian-Syrian cooperation in all fields, noting that bilateral ties urge developing common interests and increasing cooperation.
The House Speaker said: "We in Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, have always believed that it is our duty to develop joint Arab action," adding that: "The Jordanian position remains a motivation to overcome whatever divides our nations, and bridge the gap between them."
He said the Middle East is experiencing "unprecedented circumstances," underscoring that the Arab nation must not give in to pressure and live up to the challenges to avoid further division, turmoil, and wars.
Tarawneh pointed out that Jordan and Syria have historical ties, noting that it is the duty of the two countries' parliaments to work on overcoming obstacles so that relations can return to normal to serve the Arab and Islamic nations' causes, and the interests of the Jordanian and Syrian peoples.
Aloush lauded the Kingdom's position towards Syria, stressing the importance of enhancing cooperation between the two countries in all fields, so as to achieve the interests and aspirations of the two peoples.
He said that Jordan and Syria faced and overcame major challenges, thanks to the wise leaderships of the two countries, affirming that prospects for cooperation are available.
