Turkish forces detain over 2,200 undocumented migrants across country


(MENAFN) According to information collected by Anadolu Agency from several security sources, as many as 2,212 undocumented migrants were detained across Turkey over the past week.

A total of arrested in several operations conducted by gendarmerie forces in the northwestern Edirne province, which borders Greece and Bulgaria.

At least 678 illegal migrants were rounded up as a result of police and gendarmerie forces efforts in eastern provinces of Van and Erzurum over the past week.

In the shore provinces of Canakkale, Balikesir, Aydin, Izmir, and Mugla, the Turkish Coast Guard and gendarmerie forces detained as many as 654 migrants as they were attempting to cross to Europe through Greece.
