Jordan- Health Minister lays cornerstone of three hospitals

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, July 17 (Petra) -- Health Minister Saad Jaber on Wednesday laid down the cornerstone of a project to expand the emergency departments in the Jameel al-Totangi, Ramtha, and Ruwaished hospitals.
The minister underlined that the development of services provided in the emergency departments of the ministry's hospitals is a priority.
Over the past two decades, Jaber said Jordan has made great achievements, which contributed to the improvement of health indicators, such as the increase of life expectancy at birth, the decrease of maternal and infant mortality rates, the eradication of some communicable diseases, and curbing the spread of others.
On the refugee crisis impact, he pointed out that the Kingdom received large numbers of Syrian refugees, which burdened the health sector in general and the ministry's hospitals and health centers in particular, adding this pressure nearly affected the positive health indicators.
Jaber lauded the European Union's (EU) continued support for the health sector, stressing that the expansion and equipping of emergency departments project is one of the most important results of the partnership with the union.
For his part, EU ambassador Andrea Fontana said that the EU is aware of the impact of the Syrian crisis and its ramifications on Jordan, particularly in the health field.
Many projects were launched to aid Jordan in providing access to health services for refugees and their host communities, including the expansion and modernization of the emergency departments in the three hospitals at a cost of ten million euros, Fontana pointed out.
