Kenya steps up efforts to flourish blue economy

(MENAFN) A maritime academy was inaugurated in Kenya's Mombasa, as the country looks to strengthen its blue economy and turns it into a main contributor to the Kenyan transformation.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta opened the Bandari Maritime Academy on Monday, confirming that the government is also imposing several reforms for domestic and global seafaring job opportunities.

This new academy was established with a purpose to close a massive gap in qualified seafarers within the country and the region, along with satisfying demands of the emerging blue economy.

Kenyatta stated: "the Academy is expected to become a top supplier of world class seafarers for shipping lines all over the world."
