Oman- ROHM announces new season with spectacular shows

The Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) on Tuesday announced the events for the new 2019-20 season where the audience will witness more than 100 curtain raises from different parts of the world.


Addressing the august gathering on the new stage of the House of Musical Arts, H H Sayyid Kamil Fahad Mahmood al Said, member of the board of directors of ROHM said, 'We are announcing our 2019-2020 season and reviewing some of our greatest achievements in the past season. The season 2019-20 can be witnessed at both stages - the Royal Opera House Muscat and House of Musical Arts. Amongst others, the season will witness a new ROHM production of Die Zauberflote
, two new ROHM co-productions, three operas for children and families and great orchestras and artistes from the western and Arab world.'

 


ROHMbuilding

 

Sayyid Kamil added, 'We are very proud to present three new co-productions including a very special co-production of Lakme which premiered at the Royal Opera House and involved eight world class opera houses spanning the globe from Los Angeles to Sydney. ROHM's Lakmé is going on tour and will be performed next April 2020 in China at the Shanghai Oriental Art Centre.'


MARCEL KHALIFE

 

Addressing the issue of parking he said three new features have been introduced. 'These include 200 new parking spaces at the House of Musical Arts. Currently, we are working hard to finalise it before the start of the new season. There will be several locations for valet parking, each with its own price and benefits. ROHM has also collaborated with Mwasalat and provided them with an exclusive designated pick-up point.'

Sayyid Kamil also announced the launch of a mobile app that will make booking tickets easier. 'We have partnered with PatronBase and will introduce a redesigned bespoke mobile app with an advanced and powerful ticketing solution and robust CRM system across multiple platforms. ROHM will also provide discounts for early bird purchase of tickets. A discount is 15 per cent and will last for one full month from when tickets go on sale. Moreover, a 50 per cent discount will be given on seats with restricted views including boxes, depending on the configuration of the auditorium." 

 


BEYOND TIME

 

Others who gave presentations included Umberto Fanni, director general and artistic director, ROHM, Prof Issam el Mallah, advisor to the board for Arab programming and Dr Nasser al Ta'ee, director of the cultural centre and advisor to the board.

 


MUGHAL-E-AZAM

 

Detailing the highlights in the categories of Opera, Fanni said, 'Georges Bizet's opera Carmen
opens season 2019-2020.' Along with this the new season brings four additional operas including the Story of Kai and Gerda
, the famous Russian romantic opera by Sergey Banevich, performed by the world-famous Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow amongst others.


SAMIRA SAID

 

The new ROHM production of Die Zauberflote has special importance as it is set in Oman and creates connection between the Arabic cultural heritage of the sultanate and the universal themes in Mozart's Die Zauberflote
.

There will be operas for families too in the news season wherein operas customised for students and families include Maurice Ravel's fanciful L'Enfant et
les Sortilèges
(The Child and the Spells), performed by Opéra de Lyon, Gaetano Donizetti's comic opera L'Elisir d'Amore
(The Elixir of Love), performed by Teatro Sociale of Como As.Li.Co, Gioacchino Rossini's suspenseful farce, L'Inganno Felice
(The Fortunate Deception), performed by the Rossini Opera Festival under the masterful direction of internationally acclaimed director, Graham Vick.

The season's two major ballets come from the East as the Bolshoi Ballet, Moscow enacts Tchaikovsky's famous work, Onegin
,
and the National Ballet of China presents Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker
in a fusion of Chinese and Western cultural traditions.

In 2019-20, ROHM again presents world-class orchestras, conductors, instrumental soloists and singers of exceptional calibre. It also lines up of shows and jazz from around the world including Mughal-e-Azam,
the smash-hit Indian musical about the rebellious defiance of Prince Salim, son of the great Mughal Emperor, Akbar and Military Music: Oman and the World, a proud display of military pageantry with hundreds of men and women from Oman's military bands performing in colourful dress uniform, with musicians from Mexico and Turkey opening another window on the world amongst others.

The Royal Opera House Muscat continues its tremendously popular series of Arab performances with wonderful productions and some of the greatest names in the world of Arab music. These include the world premiere of Tarh el Bahr
, The Sea Treasures, a new opera by Monir Elweseimy about the adventures of an Arab fisherman, with music played by the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra, the Cairo Ballet Company presents an evening of ballet featuring Zorba
the Greek a rousing balletic interpretation of Nikos Kazantzakis' famous novel; and, El Leila El Kebira
(The Grand Night), a playful ballet featuring lively scenes from a carnival in celebration of the last night of the Prophet's birthday amongst others.
