UN backs EU appeal for Tripoli truce

(MENAFN) The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) voiced its full support to an appeal the European Union (EU) made for Libya's capital Tripoli to achieve a truce.

In a statement, UNSMIL emphasized that it "welcomes the EU Foreign Affairs Council statement on Libya."

UNSMIL also stressed that it "echoes the Council's statement and stresses that the attack on Tripoli and ensuing violence threaten international peace and security, and most importantly, the stability of Libya."

All Libyan parties, the mission affirmed, ought to "cooperate swiftly with the UN for an immediate ceasefire."

It further highlighted the grave risks of indiscriminate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructures in the Libyan capital.
