Air passengers drop 3 percent in Middle East
(MENAFN) International Air Transport Association (IATA) revealed a 3 percent decline in the number of passengers using airlines in the Middle East in March 2019.
This is the second month in a row for the Middle East to see a decrease in air passengers, Canada-based IATA unveiled based on its statistics.
IATA attributed the drop to the wider structural renovations the region has been implementing within the industry.
Capacity, IATA further unveiled, registered a 2.3 percent jump while load factor recorded a 4 percent fall to stand at 73.8 percent during the month.
"While traffic growth slowed considerably in March, we do not see the month as a bellwether for the rest of 2019. Nevertheless, the economic backdrop has become somewhat less favourable, with the IMF having recently revised its GDP outlook downward for a fourth time in the past year," stated director general and CEO of IATA Alexandre de Juniac.
