Qatar- QFFD partners with QC to support Syrians

Doha: Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and Qatar Charity (QC) have signed a joint funding agreement to support an emergency response to Syrians in northern Syria, Lebanon and Jordan through the implementation of a number of projects with an overall estimated budget of more than $6.5m.

The agreement was signed by Misfer bin Hamad Al Shahwani, Deputy Director General for Projects at QFFD, and Faisal bin Rashid Al Fahaideh, Assistant General Manager of Operations and International Partnerships at QC.

'The purpose of this agreement is to support Syrians in northern Syria and neighbouring countries, through several relief and health related projects, said Al Shahwani, hoping that these projects will be beneficial to the Syrian people.

With regard to the projects to be implemented in light of this agreement in northern Syria, Jordan and Lebanon, a detailed action plan to support the emergency response will be executed through the implementation of a number of projects in the health sector with a budget of $6,505,724, whereby QFFD will contribute $4,101,857 and QC $2,403,867 respectively.

These projects include a specialised primary health care project that supports and operates health centers in northern Syria, the development of the Arsal Medical Center in Lebanon, pre-natal and postnatal health care project for Syrian refugees in Lebanon, as well as integrated health services in Zaatari camp.

The Qatari Center for Chronic Diseases in Lebanon will provide full health care to 20,000 refugee patients per year for people suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and neurological diseases.

Whereas the specialised primary health care programme will aim to raise the quality of public health and basic health services for the Syrians, reaching 144,000 beneficiaries. Furthermore, Arsal medical Centre in Lebanon will benefit 18,000 patients annually.
