Dubai – This Saturday (12), Emirates airline, based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, announced some adjustments to its operational schedule in 2019 to minimize the impact of the closure of Dubai International Airport's southern runaway between April 16 and May 30 for maintenance work.
During the 45-day period, up to 48 aircraft will not be utilized by the company, resulting in a 25% reduction in the overall number of flights operated by Emirates across the world. Many flights are going to be cancelled or rescheduled.
The company also announced it will adjust its services in South America to optimize fleet utilization. From June 1st on, Emirates will deploy the newly refurbished Boeing 777-200LR on their daily service from Dubai to Rio de Janeiro. Offering wider business class seats and refreshed seats in economy class, this service will continue from Rio de Janeiro to the Argentinian capital city of Buenos Aires four times a week, and on the remaining three days it will operate onwards to Santiago, Chile.
With this change, Emirates will suspend its linked flight from Dubai to Santiago via Sao Paulo. Sao Paulo will continue to be served with a daily non-stop Airbus A380 service to and from Dubai.
Starting in June, the airline will deploy additional flights in the African market, in Casablanca (Morocco), Abuja (Nigeria), Accra (Ghana), Conakry, Guinea and Dakar (Senegal). Additional flights for the European market were also announced for the peak travel season of 2019 summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Destinations include Athens (Greece), Rome (Italy), Stockholm (Sweden) and Zagreb (Croatia).
