(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A team of 50 Omani youths recently came together to clean up a beach to spread environmental awareness and promote Oman's domestic tourism.

In the campaign conducted at Ras al Ruwais beach in Mahout in Al Wusta governorate, the Al Fairuz 4x4 vehicle team removed one tonne of rubbish.

The team was formed seven years ago and it has 50 youths who love four-wheel drive vehicles, its founder Hussain Issa al Fairuz told Muscat Daily.

'The team aims at spreading environmental awareness and promote domestic tourism. We conduct beach clean-up campaigns. We aim to instil values of cleanliness and preservation of the Omani environment among the members of the society,' Fairuz said.

He added, 'In the recent campaign, our team cleaned the beach of a lot of waste such as discarded fishing nets, plastic bags, etc. We removed one tonne of such rubbish.'

The Al Fairuz 4x4 vehicle team also organises camping activities at various tourist sites across the country.

'A lot of European tourists join with us in our local tourist trips. We use social media channels such as Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram to announce our campaigns and trips to promote domestic tourism and environmental awareness among the community,' said Fairuz.

'I appeal to all members of the community to keep the beaches clean and to participate in Oman's tourism promotion activities.'
