U.S. autonomous vehicles to start transporting
(MENAFN) A company developing driverless vehicles was granted permission to start carrying passengers in its vehicles in California.
State officials have given Zoox a permit to carry passengers in autonomous vehicles under a pilot program, without charging people, and a back-up driver must be in the car.
Zoox is the first company to win authorization for a passenger service in the state but many others already have permits to test driverless cars on public roads.
Earlier this month, Google spin-off Waymo started a small paying passenger service in the Phoenix area of Arizona, where regulations are less rigid than in California.
