Australia recognizes west Jerusalem as Israel's capital
(MENAFN) Australia has officially recognizes west Jerusalem as Israel"s capital, overturning years of Middle East policy, but said will not move its embassy there right away.
Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat said the declaration was born of Australian "petty domestic politics."
Australian Prime Minister said: "Australia now recognizes west Jerusalem, being the seat of the Knesset and many of the institutions of government, is the capital of Israel."
"We look forward to moving our embassy to west Jerusalem when practical," he added.
He also confirmed the country's support for a two-state solution with a Palestinian capital in East Jerusalem.
