'Treated water not used for drinking in Oman'

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Treated wastewater in Oman cannot be used for drinking purpose yet, an official from Haya Water has said.

However, many countries use treated wastewater that flows down the drain, including toilet water nowadays. This water is filtered until it's as pure as spring water for drinking. It may not appeal to many, but recycled wastewater in these countries is safe and tastes like any other drinking water, bottled or tap.

Mahmoud Abu Saud, operations and maintenance, general manager, Haya, Water told Muscat Daily that the safety of treated water in Oman cannot be guaranteed yet. 'Our treated wastewater is not safe for drinking yet. In other countries it is considered pure though.' Saud said that treated wastewater by Haya Water is of good quality and can be used for other purposes. 'Using treated wastewater for drinking purpose is still not approved in Oman. This water is suitable for agriculture and industrial services.'
