Ghani issues guidelines to govt team for peace talks
(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has held a meeting with members of a delegation for peace talks with the Taliban, the Presidential Palace said on Monday.
Ghani issued guidelines and basic principles to the negotiating team for conducting peace talks with the insurgent movement, his office said in a statement.
Ghani told the meeting the guidelines were based on lengthy public consultations that lasted eight months.
Vice President Sarwar Danish and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah also addressed the meeting and said the negotiating team had the support of the government and people.
Head of the delegation Abdul Salam Rahimi, Mohammad Omar Dawoodzai, the presidential envoy on regional affairs, and Farooq Wardak also expressed their views at the meeting.
The participants thanked Ghani and assured him of stepping up efforts for peace and stability in the country.
