Algeria, EU to bolster energy cooperation

(MENAFN) Algeria has been targeted by the European Union (EU) for forming stronger energy cooperation, with a top EU official heading for Algiers on the matter.

Algiers received Miguel Arias Canete, European Commissioner for Climate and Energy, who is aiming to hold key talks on energy relations.

The EU stated: "Algeria is a reliable and competitive supplier of natural gas for the EU. Europe relies on Algerian gas for its security of supply, and Algeria relies on the European market for the security of its demand."

In its press release, the EU further noted that for it, "the aim is to improve the legislative and regulatory framework for gas and make it more attractive for investors."

It added that "diversification is also an important element when ensuring the security of gas supply in the European Union."
