Ukraine calls on Canada to strengthen sanctions against Russia

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Ukraine calls on Canada to intensify sanctions pressure on Russia due to the holding of pseudo-elections in the occupied Donbas and the blocking of the release of Ukrainian hostages and political prisoners.

The Ukrainian president's envoy on the peaceful settlement of the situation in the Donbas, First Deputy Chairwoman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Gerashchenko, said this at a meeting with Canadian parliamentarian, co-chair of the Canada-Ukraine Friendship Group Borys Wrzesnewskyj, the press service of the Ukrainian parliament reported.

The report notes that the meeting took place in Halifax, Canada, on November 17.

Ukrainian MPs invited representatives of the Canadian delegation to take part in monitoring the parliamentary and presidential elections in Ukraine in 2019.

During the meeting, the sides also paid special attention to Russian military aggression against Ukraine and the problems of UN resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security.

"Canada is in favor of strengthening the role of women in peacekeeping processes and peacekeeping missions. We hold the same position and support all projects aimed at strengthening the role of women in peacekeeping processes, supporting women who were affected by the conflict in the Donbas," Gerashchenko said.
