Driver gets jail for kidnapping, trying to rape maid in UAE>

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) An Asian driver was sentenced to three years in jail by the Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court after being found guilty of kidnapping the housemaid of his sponsor. He was also convicted of attempting to rape the victim, as per court records.

The indictment sheet shows that the RAK Public Prosecution had accused the man with a number of charges, including kidnap and rape bid.

The case unfolded when the sponsor of the housemaid lodged a complaint at the police station against the defendant.

He told the police that the accused used to work as a driver for the family. "He transported the victim in the family car, but that day, he changed the usual route, and tried to kidnap and sexually abuse her."

The maid managed to call the family, who rushed to her for help. "The suspect returned home with the maid whom he dropped at the house door, and escaped in the family car."

The driver later left the car and disappeared. The police initiated investigations, and managed to arrest him shortly.

He was referred to the RAK Public Prosecution and later to the criminal court, which handed him a three-year jail term.
