Jordan- King, US Treasury Secretary discuss economic ties

Amman, Oct. 22 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday received U.S Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin for talks on economic cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting at the Al-Husseiniah Palace, His Majesty emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between the two countries and lauded the U.S support to Jordan.

For his part, Mnuchin underlined the important role played by Jordan, which endeavors to realize peace and stability in the Middle East.

He commended the Kingdom for hosting the Syrian refugees, and said the U.S will continue supporting Jordan in various areas.

The meeting also touched on economic challenges Jordan encounters due to regional crises, as well as economic programs and schemes to boost growth, provide employment opportunities and enhance the capacity of the economy to better deal with different challenges.

Discussions also tackled burdens arising from the Syrian refugee crisis, which Jordan shoulders, and the growing pressure the crisis poses on the Kingdom's services sector and infrastructure.

Advisor to His Majesty, Director of the King's Office, the King's Adviser for Economic Affairs and the Chargé d'affaires at the American Embassy in Amman attended the meeting.
